You know that feeling when you get invited to a REALLY awesome party, but you have to decline because you're already committed to another event? That was the feeling I had when John and Angie asked me to photograph their wedding in Hawaii. Except the other event that I'd committed to was having a BABY, right about the exact time that they'd be saying 'I do' on the beautiful island of Maui. I was so incredibly disappointed to have to miss their big day, but my darling boy was obviously more than worth it. This is just one reason I was beyond excited when John and Angie asked if instead, I'd photograph their reception here in Washington.
These lovebirds exchanged vows this January on the beautiful island of Maui during an intimate wedding ceremony. The newlyweds returned to the beautiful Pacific Northwest ready to celebrate this new chapter in their lives with family and friends during a gorgeous reception at VanArnam Vineyards in Zillah, Washington.
VanArnam Vineyards was such a picturesque venue for this celebration of love and friendship! With hills of cherry trees and vineyards in every direction and mountains in the distance, you couldn’t ask for a better view or a more peaceful, romantic setting.
They brought pieces of Hawaii back with them, from Hawaiian leis to touches of golden pineapples which were intentionally incorporated throughout the day.
What may have been my favorite moment of the night occured while taking portraits of the groom. Angie was chatting away with some of their cherished friends and family, and John was just gazing at her lovingly. As I photographed that candid moment, knowing the expression on his face would warm her heart, he said, “I just can’t believe how lucky I am…” and went on about what a blessing she is. My heart was overflowing as his eyes teared up, wishing his beautiful bride could hear and know just how loved she is.
The event was filled with joy and hugs, great conversation, live music by some of their cherished family and friends, and happy tears all around.
John and Angie, you bring laughter and authenticity everywhere you go. I am blessed to know you and call you friends!
